David Griffiths Sox

David Griffiths Sox earned a Master of Arts in geography at University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) in 1972, with a lengthy thesis titled “Resource Use System of Ancient Champa”.  The thesis reconstructed the economy of Champa, with chapters on prehistory and history, trade systems, agriculture and maritime technology, and hypothesized the central role of the temple in the Champa’s economy.  

He later collected a large amount of information from U.S. and French libraries about Cham culture and the cultural landscape of Champa for a geography Ph.D. dissertation that was never completed.  Since 1973, and especially after the advent of the internet, Sox has accumulted over 25 linear feet of Champa and related Vietnamese and Southeast Asian files.

Prior to graduate school, David took French as an undergraduate and intensive Vietnamese at the Army Language School in Monterey, after which he served in Vietnam for 30 months between 1965 and 1967.  At UHM, he also was exposed to one semester of intensive Mandarin Chinese. Unfortunately, he does not understand Cham.

Phú Văn Hẳn

Phú Văn Hẳn,  sinh ra, lớn lên tại Phan Rang (Ninh Thuận). Học xong THPT, anh thi đỗ vào Trường ĐH Tổng hợp TPHCM.

Năm 1988, anh về công tác tại Viện Khoa học xã hội vùng Nam Bộ, nghiên cứu ngôn ngữ Chăm, sau đó, được đi tu nghiệp tại Malaysia (1993-1995). Anh đã có nhiều công trình nghiên cứu được công bố trong và ngoài nước. 40 tuổi (2003), Phú Văn Hẳn bảo vệ thành công luận án tiến sĩ chuyên ngành ngôn ngữ.

Linh mục Gérard Moussay

Gérard Moussay est un missionnaire catholique français, né le 16 août 1932 à Brecé (Mayenne) et décédé le 1^er février 2012 à Paris. Il est également spécialiste des langues Cam et Minangkabau.

Biographie

1954-1975

Fils de cultivateurs, aîné de quatre enfants, il fait ses études aux Petit et Grand Séminaires de Laval. Il est ensuite entré aux Missions Etrangères de Paris le 20 septembre 1954 et ordonné prêtre à Laval le 29 juin 1957. Quelques mois plus tard, il part au Viet Nampour la mission de Nha Trang. Il commence l’étude du vietnamien à Banam (Cambodge) ¹.

Prof. Pierre-Yves Manguin

Après un bref passage dans une école d’ingénieur, Pierre-Yves Manguin s’inscrit à l’INALCO, où il obtient en 1967 le diplôme de langue et civilisation vietnamiennes. Il obtient en 1970 son diplôme de l’EPHE (IVe section) et soutient en 1977 son doctorat de IIIe cycle en histoire (université Paris-IV). Parallèlement, il poursuit à la Sorbonne et à l’EHESS des études d’ethnologie et de linguistique.

Henri Parmentier

Paris, 1871 – Phnom Penh, 1949

Henri Parmentier passe sa jeunesse à Paris. Bachelier ès lettres et ès sciences en 1888-1890, il entre à l’École des beaux-arts, section architecture, en 1891. Attaché au service d’architecture de Tunis, il débute dans l’archéologie par un relevé et une restitution du temple de Saturne-Baal à Dougga (mention honorable au Salon des Artistes français, en 1896). Nommé pensionnaire-architecte de l’EFEO naissante, il débarque en novembre 1900 en Indochine, qui va devenir sa deuxième patrie. Sa première mission consiste en l’étude et la sauvegarde des monuments cam, très peu connus à l’époque et souvent confondus avec des temples khmers. Après un repérage complet, il entreprend avec Ch. Carpeaux de longues campagnes de fouilles sur les sites de Mi Son en 1903-1904, de Dong Duong, de Chanh Lô en 1905 et de restauration des temples de Po Nagar en 1905 et de Po Klaung Garai en 1908.

Prof.Dr. Pièrre-Bernard Lafont

Gs. Ts. Pièrre-Bernard Lafont sinh ngày 17 tháng 2 năm 1926 tại Syrie (Trung Ðông). Tốt nghiệp tiến sĩ luật học tại đại học Sorbonne và xuất thân từ Viện Chính Trị Học Paris, ông được bổ nhiệm vào Viện Viễn Ðông Pháp với chức vụ thành viên khoa học chuyên về nền văn minh Ðông Dương, đã từng có mặt nhiều năm tại Việt Nam kể từ 1953 để nghiên cứu về dân tộc Tây Nguyên và mối liên hệ với người Chăm sinh sống ở vùng duyên hải của vương quốc Champa.
